Sunday 18th saw us racing
at Yesnaby. Everyone had a chance to learn this track with a practise round.
The track was in perfect order thanks to Mr. Sinclair who dampened the dust
down so we were good to go.
First away were the A league with twelve
riders in the mix. Danny, Ryan and Tony got off to a good start. It was Tony
who soon took the lead for a few laps. Dave was going well on a bike borrowed
from Stewart Brown. We also saw the return of Derry Sinclair. Graham was also
going well, without a loader. As Tony says he needs more bike time as we saw
him drop down the pack. John was now in the lead and pulling out a small gap.
Ryan was pushing hard, as was Mark. The riders by now were very dirty and it
was hard to see who was who/ I could only recognise Alan as he was resting on
the berm. John held on and took his first win. Ryan took second and Mark third.
Race 2: 1st
John Marshall, 2nd Ryan Garriock, 3rd Mark Garson
Race 3: 1st
John Marshall, 2nd Ryan Garriock, 3rd Tony Leask
Fourteen B league riders flew up the start
straight and disappeared over the first jump in a cloud of dust. D.J. came
round in front with Jamie and Chris hot on his heels. D.J. was managing to
compound his lead when he came off on the corner. Derek was now moving quickly
up the pack and Jamie and Chris. D.J. was working hard to move back up the
pack. Derek was now pulling out a good lead, making it look easy. Kevin
Scolly’s bike was sounding nasty. I hope it sounds better for this Sunday!
Derek claimed the win and the battle for second was won by Jamie, with Chris 3rd.
Race 2: 1st
David Johnston, 2nd Derek Irvine, 3rd Chris Byers
The C league were next and five riders were
up for the challenge. Phil Taylor was back after a long break. Dougie, followed
by Andrew and Phil got away fine but Colin and Kieran stalled on the line.
Dougie soon pulled out a confident lead, leaving the rest to battle for the
other places. It was a nice steady race with no mishaps. Andrew and Phil had some
good moments. Dougie took the flag and with a final sneaky manoeuvre Andrew
took second from Phil.
A combined race for senior and intermediate
riders were up next. Thirteen young riders took to the line. Nikki Sabiston was
making a return on her favourite track. A good start for Kevin saw him lead the
pack out. Alex brown came round the first time, with a good lead from Michael,
William, Kevin, Paul and Alex Tait. After being off on the first lap, Blake
made a great move, re-gaining four places. Alex looking like he had a bike
problem was soon passed by Michael and William. It was soon the last lap in
this exciting race. Michael was holding off William as they headed off, over
the jump where William landed on his sister leaving them both out of the race.
Michael went on to take the win, with Alex Brown second and Alex Tait third.
Race 2: 1st
Alex Brown, 2nd Michael Harvey, 3rd Alex Tait
Race 3: 1st
Alex Brown, 2nd Michael Harvey, 3rd Alex Tait
After a good intermediate race, Scott Smith
took first from James Brown in second and Nicholas Taylor third.
Race 2: 1st
James Brown, 2nd Scott Smith, 3rd Nicholas Taylor
Race 3: 1st
James Brown, 2nd Scott Smith, 3rd Nicholas Taylor
We had five junior riders on the track for
the first of their three races. All five riders handled the track well, putting
on a good show. Willis Deans and Evan Tait were really going for it. Jake
Flett, Connor Spence and George Bailey were also going well. Willis managed to
hold on and took the first win, with Evan second and Jake third. Good stuff
boys!
Well, as William and Nikki needed some
medical attention I didn’t get to see the rest of the action, but I was
reliably informed that it was a good days racing.

I have lots
of people to thank this time. As always a big Thank you to Messer’s Sinclair
for the use of the track. All the marshals, helpers and lap recorders. Thank
you to everyone who helped with William and Nikki, especially John Webster and
the staff at the Balfour. Thankfully with the use of all the safety gear, their
injuries were kept to a minimum and Nikki can’t get out of typing this. I hope
to see you all back again at Yesnaby on the 30th for the next points
meeting.
