Fun Meeting

Last Saturday we held our annual bike show in the Masonic Hall in Kirkwall. Thank you to everyone who came along.
On Sunday we held our fun meeting out at Norton. Thanks to Graham and crew we had a great track to race on. I think everyone enjoyed it. It certainly made for good racing. We were joined by some riders over from Caithness so we had good numbers in the races. I hope those riders enjoyed things enough to come back again.
The A league boys kicked things off. All riders put on a great show with John Marshall, Davie Peace and Graham Thomson having the best of things in race one. John Marshall had to contend with Mark Garson on his new bike for race two. Davie Peace was well down after stalling on the first corner. We saw him really fly to get back in the pack. Tony tells me Davie had the fastest lap of the day. In the third race no. 74 from Caithness took the hole shot. John Marshall and David Henning came off but were soon up and away again. John had some work to do to get up to the front. By about lap six he had overtaken Mark to take the lead. Graham not being able to take the pace sat out the last race. John held on to take a third win. Mark took second with Davie third. We are in for some great racing this season.
The B league boys were up next. They also put on a great show. Ronnie Breck was on good form and on was the one to beat. In the first race it was Christopher Craigie who put in all the hard work leading all race just to have Ronnie steal victory on the line. The new B league riders that have just moved up from school boys did themselves proud. I was really proud to see William get a third. It was up to Kevin Breck to try and stop Ronnie in the second race and it was close at times. Christopher went well and took third. Ronnie and Kevin were once again the two riders out front battling for the win. Ronnie held on and took his third win. It was another young rider, Alex Brown who was really flying to take third.
There were a lot of riders in the C league having a lot of boys over from Caithness. There was a lot of good racing and a few spills. Nick Lovick came off, injuring his arm. Hope you are better and able to race again on Sunday. It was also good to see Chunk back out racing.
Michael Harvey dominated the senior and intermediate races. It was good to see his bike last a whole meeting. I am sure his dad Davie can uncross his fingers now. Alex Tait also had a good days racing and was looking good out there. Kevin Johnston was also going well. Nicholas Taylor took a fantastic tumble but was soon up and away again with damages, only to his plastics thankfully. We had a young Caithness rider, no. 5 who was really flying. Evan Tait, Aidan Cursiter and Willis Deans made things look easy.
We only had two juniors out on Sunday. They were using a shorter track. They may have found the sand a bit hard going and Ryan Garriock would have found the day a lot less tiring if he was racing rather than picking the youngsters out of the sand. These youngsters Jake Flett and Connor Spence showed great determination and never gave up. Good on you boys, keep it up.
We are back here at Norton on Sunday 3rd April for the start of the new season proper. We have the transponders in operation now. All adult riders wanting points will have to have a transponder.
Thank you to Messers Dass for the use of the track. A huge thank you to the marshals and other helpers. Remember boys, its Mother’s Day on Sunday. See you there.
