ORKNEY MOTOCROSS CLUB

Picture

On Sunday 3rd April we were racing for the first points of the new season. With a good turnout of bikes in all leagues we had a great days racing. This year we are running a new transponder system to help with the lap scoring. Tony had his hands full working the final gremlins out of the system. Once he was ready and the practice was over we began racing proper with the A league.
We saw some great racing from the six A league boys. With John Marshall, Davie Peace and Mark Garson having the best if it. These three were pushing themselves and each other all day. The other three Graham Thomson, David Henning and Alan Clouston were just off the pace on the day. Graham needing more bike time to improve his fitness, Dave needing more energy giving bananas and, Alan! Well, Alan just needs to stay on his bike.
Top 3 places for the day:
No 1, John Marshall - 48 points.
No 88, Mark Garson - 38 points.
No 11, David Henning - 27 points.
The B league had a large turnout of bikes which made exciting starts to the races with everyone bunching up into the first corner. It took a good couple of laps for the riders to space out enough to see who was who. Christopher Craigie had a great four wins. As I said to him it must be very lonely out there in front. Kevin Breck and Ronnie Breck did their best to catch him. Kevin trying a bit hard took a spill in race two. Thankfully after some T.L.C. he was thinking of his next race. The younger riders all had some good racing and are finding their feet or should I say wheels among the more experienced riders with Gary Tait and Johnnie Peace trying to keep them in their place.
Top 3 places of the day:
No 89, Christopher Craigie - 48 points.
No. 50, Ronnie Breck - 38 points.
No. 28, William Sabiston - 29 points.
There were also a good number of bikes out in the C league. Darren Prestwood aka Chunk was out on Nick Lovick’s bike and was really flying. Graham Nicolson and David Ward also had some good racing. Graham only could stay for three races as he had a calving to attend to.
Top 3 places for the day:
No. 41, Darren Prestwood - 36 points.
No. 80, Graham Nicolson - 32 points.
No. 81, David Ward - 28 points.
The Senior/Intermediate boys raced together. We saw some exciting moves from Michael Harvey, James Brown, Kevin Johnston and Alex Tait who battled each other all day, taking turns to lead. I witnessed a scary moment as Evan Tait came over the jump and brother Alex fly past his ear. Ross Miller was also seen slowing down and coming in. I am informed it was bike problems and Ross wasn’t just asking for directions. Steady racing also saw Aiden Cursiter have a good day.
Top 3 places for the day:
Seniors -
No. 47, James Brown - 42 points.
No. 22, Michael Harvey - 38 points.
No. 8, Kevin Johnston - 35 points.
Intermediates -
No. 3, Aiden Cursiter - 48 points.
No 39, Evan Tait - 40 points.
The junior riders rounded things off. As usual these boys gave their best. They just keep on going. Ryan Watt had the best of things with three out of four wins.
Top 3 places of the day:
No. 87, Ryan Watt - 46 points.
No. 18, Gregor Dowel - 39 points.
No. 4, Connor Spence - 31 points.
I want to thank Messers Dass for the use of the track. Thanks also to the boys for setting up and taking down the track. A huge thank you also to all the marshals. We will be racing this Sunday 17th for the River Dee and Don cups at Northfield, Burray. Adult riders please have fully charged transponders. Everyone welcome, we should be in for a treat as Jimmy Harcus is threatening to race.
