Norton race track was the venue
for the fourth points meeting of the clubs calendar and due to the shortage of
junior riders Evan Tait was to join the big boys in the first race of the day.
Senior/intermediate and Junior riders took to the line and
with the tape sprung Michael Harvey forged ahead to take the hole shot. Kevin
Johnston took a tumble at the first jump but was soon back in the race, and by
the end of lap one Alex brown rounded the bend in the lead with William
Sabiston second, and Alex Tait third. Nicholas Taylor had found his groove and
was doing battle with Scott Smith, both of them pushing hard for sixth place.
Michael Harvey was making his way back up the field after coming off early on
in the race and by the end of the sixth lap he was up to ninth place. Aiden
Cursiter was doing well on his return from injury earlier in the year and was
on good form despite the time out. Most of the riders held their places
throughout the race with the exception of Paul Mille, Blake McGibbon, and
Kevin. Blake was playing catch-up with Paul for the first few laps, with Kevin
giving chase but by the winning flag
Blake took fourth, Kevin fifth and Paul sixth. Alex Brown took the
well-deserved win, William Sabiston second and Alex Tait third.
The following three races of the day were as hard fought
with Michael Harvey taking the honours in race two, Alex Brown race three and
four.
B and C league were next up and
after a false start Chris Byers took the hole shot and lead into lap two but
Chris Craigie was to take over the lead followed by Gary Tait into second. By
the third lap Johnnie Peace was putting the pressure on Chris Byers for third
place and took the place on lap four. Further down the field the battle for
eighth place was unfolding between Scott Davidson and Graham Nicholson, the two
of them were to trade places throughout the race until lap nine when Graham
managed to break free and push up the pack. Up at the front Chris Craigie was
proving to be unstoppable but Garry was not giving up without a fight. With the
two of them never more that three seconds apart it proved to be an exciting
race. Danny Bain was back in the saddle for the racing after some time out but
retired in the later stages of the race. Chris Craigie took the chequered flag
after a solid race having lead from lap two, Garry Tait took second, and
Johnnie Peace third.
The next three races proved to be
as fast and furious as the first with Mathew Webster taking the flag for both
race three and four.
A leagues racing was as fast as
ever with Mark Garson taking the hole shot and the rest of the pack
miraculously made it through the first corner and on through to the table top.
John marshal had moved up to first place by the beginning of lap two and was
being chased down by Mark. Derry Simison was close behind in third but closely
followed by David Henning. The pace was astounding as the pack fought their way
through the sand, but by lap four the race had settled and all the places held
until the winning flag. Derry set the pace throughout and took first, John took
second and Mark third.
The rest of the A league racing
didn’t disappoint with Graham Thompson and David Henning battling throughout
race two, and Mark Garson only just holding off John Marshall by half a wheels
length to take the win, Graham Thompson took third in his first podium place of
the year.
