Heddle Hill
Work is now complete on the revamped heddle hill track after hundreds of hours of work put in over the last few weeks so it's now ready for the Beach Race Weekend. Duncan Currie and Allan Thompson have constructed a new and improved wider start line which is now on the outside of the track and sweeps into the top of the loop. David Johnston and Graham Thomson have put in the hours too, having re-built and reformed all the jumps and corners. The track now boasts more jumps, and the berms have been reduced in height with soft material dragged in to allow for new lines and more passing opportunities.
From the start line, your straight on to the loop and into a table top jump and on down to the bottom of the hill, the track is more or less the same from there apart from the second assent which now has a fast jump ¾ the way up,the corners are wider and the whole track has been graded. The new track has not been raced on so it should be new ground for both local and visiting riders.A huge thanks goes to Roy Brown from Orkney Aggregates Ltd. for all the materials, and to Currie Brothers Ltd. for the machinery to make this revamp possible. Also thanks to al lthe others who came up from time to time to put in some hard graft, and to the wives and girlfriends who had to put up with disappearing men.
The Bu sands is next on the agenda, there looks to be a good beach forthe race this year and everyone is all revved up to get the track done, andwork is due to start there shortly. The club looks forward to seeing you all there and hope you all enjoy the racing.
